Rochester and Rochester Hills, MI Community

Rochester, Michigan, knows how to make the most of a summer evening. Outdoor movie nights are back, and this year’s Movies in the Moonlight 2025 series is ready to roll out the red carpet for families, friends, and anyone who loves a good film with a side of fresh air. Forget the couch and the living room TV—this is your chance to watch movies with the best ceiling in town.

What’s Playing: The 2025 Lineup

This summer, the big screen moves to a new spot—the upper level of the East Parking platform at 415 East Street, right on the corner of E. 4th and Water Street. The movie lot opens at 7:00 pm, and the main feature starts around 8:30 pm. Admission is free, but remember: it’s BYOC (Bring Your Own Chairs). No early birds dropping off chairs in the morning; everyone gets a fair shot at a good seat.

Here’s what’s showing:

  • July 19: Wicked
Sponsored by The Linda Rea Team

  • July 26: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
    Sponsored by Fredal Orthodontics

  • August 2: Moana 2
    Sponsored by Genisys Credit Union

Pre-show activities are still a mystery, but expect some fun before the movie starts.

Snack Time: Local Flavor on the Lot

Movie snacks can make or break the night. Luckily, The Little Donut Factory is on concession duty for each movie. Their menu covers all the classics: popcorn, fresh-squeezed lemonade, cold brew with sweet cream, soda, water, candy, chips, and more. If you’re thinking of bringing your own treats, remember the rules: no alcohol and no glass containers allowed in the movie lot.

Want to add something extra to your picnic basket? Rochester’s restaurants are just a short walk or drive away. Grab a pizza from Jet’s or Nostalgia Wood Fired Oven, pick up Thai from Bangkok Cuisine, or swing by Chomp for burgers and fries. For dessert, Choco Mania Cafe has cakes and sweets that travel well. Just pack everything in plastic or paper containers, and you’re set.

Movie Night for Every Mood

Outdoor movies are more than just a film—they’re an event. Here are some ideas for making your night even better:

For Families:
Moana 2 is a slam dunk for kids and parents alike. Bring a blanket, some glow sticks, and let the kids sing along. If you want to keep the fun going at home, try a themed snack picnic with tropical fruit and Hawaiian pizza.

For Friends:
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is perfect for a group of pals. Dress up in black and white stripes, pack some quirky snacks (gummy worms, anyone?), and see who can quote the most lines. Don’t forget a group selfie with the parking deck skyline in the background.

For Date Night:
Wicked brings a touch of Broadway magic to Rochester. Pack a cozy blanket, share a bag of kettle corn, and enjoy the music and drama together. For extra romance, grab a couple of fancy drinks from a nearby café (iced, of course) and toast to a night under the stars.

Tips for a Five-Star Movie Night

  • Arrive early for the best spot. The lot opens at 7:00 pm, and good seats go quickly.

  • Bring chairs or a blanket. Comfort is key, especially if you plan to stay for pre-show fun.

  • Dress for the weather. Michigan nights can be unpredictable. Layers and bug spray are your friends.

  • Pack smart. No glass, no alcohol, and keep your snacks easy to share.

  • Support local. Grab dinner or dessert from a Rochester restaurant before you settle in.

Why Outdoor Movies Are a Rochester Summer Must

There’s something about watching a movie outdoors that just feels right. Maybe it’s the shared laughter, the fresh air, or the way the city lights mix with the stars. Movies in the Moonlight 2025 is more than just a film series—it’s a community tradition. So gather your crew, pick your snacks, and get ready for a summer of stories, songs, and a little bit of movie magic, right here in Rochester.
