Rochester and Rochester Hills, MI Community

Father’s Day lands on the third Sunday in June every year, and in 2025, that’s June 15. This is the day when dads, stepdads, grandpas, and all the father figures in our lives get their moment in the spotlight. It’s a chance to say thanks for the dad jokes, the backyard grilling lessons, and the advice we never asked for but probably needed. Whether you’re a Rochester local or just visiting, there are plenty of ways to make Father’s Day memorable right here in town.

Why Do We Celebrate Father’s Day?

Father’s Day started over a century ago thanks to Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her dad, a Civil War veteran who raised six kids on his own. The first official celebration was in 1910, and after a few decades and some presidential nudging, it became a national holiday in 1972. Today, it’s all about showing appreciation for dads and father figures, whether that’s with a heartfelt card, a big family meal, or a day filled with dad-approved activities.

Rochester-Style Father’s Day: Simple, Fun, and Local

You don’t need to book a flight or spend a fortune to have a great Father’s Day. Rochester, Michigan, has everything you need for a day that’s equal parts relaxing and fun.

Breakfast in Bed, Dad-Style
Start the day with breakfast in bed. Pancakes, bacon, coffee—whatever Dad loves. If you’re not a morning person, grab pastries from a local bakery and serve them with a side of “thanks for everything, Dad.”

Picnic at the Park
Pack up some snacks, a blanket, and a frisbee, and head to Rochester Municipal Park. Let Dad relax while the kids burn off energy. Bonus points if you bring his favorite sandwich or a thermos of his go-to coffee.

Bike Ride or Walk on the Paint Creek Trail
If your dad is the outdoorsy type, take a stroll or bike ride along the Paint Creek Trail. It’s a great way to enjoy Michigan’s June weather and maybe spot some wildlife along the way.

Family Game Night
Dust off the board games or pick up a new one from a local shop. Let Dad pick the game and the snacks. Winner gets bragging rights until next year.

Movie Night Under the Stars
Set up a backyard movie night with a projector and a white sheet. Let Dad pick the film. Popcorn is non-negotiable.

Rochester Gift Ideas That Say “Thanks, Dad”

Skip the generic tie this year. Rochester has plenty of unique gift options that support local businesses and make Dad feel special.

Custom Cakes and Treats from Dream It, Luv It
If your dad has a sweet tooth, check out Dream It, Luv It—a home bakery specializing in custom cakes and treats made with love. They’re now taking limited Father’s Day orders, so message them soon to reserve your spot. Imagine surprising Dad with a cake that’s as sweet as he is (but maybe less cheesy).

Dinner at La Collina Ristorante Italiano
Treat Dad to an Italian feast at La Collina Ristorante Italiano, located at the corner of Tienken and North Rochester Road. Known for traditional recipes, an impressive wine list, and a cozy atmosphere, La Collina is perfect for family celebrations. Their staff is famous for warm hospitality and exceptional service, making every meal feel like a special occasion. Reservations are recommended, especially for Father’s Day.

Holy Cannoli’s: A Taste of Tradition
For something a little different, stop by Holy Cannoli’s for hand-rolled Sicilian cannolis. With over 125 flavors, you’re bound to find one that matches Dad’s taste buds. Fun flavors like key lime and raspberry white chocolate keep things interesting, and every bite is a little piece of Rochester history.

Experience Gifts
If your dad is more about making memories than unwrapping gifts, consider local experiences. Think fishing expeditions on the Great Lakes, classic car museum tours, or a scenic hike through nearby parks. These are gifts that last long after the day is over.

More Ways to Celebrate

Backyard Barbecue
If Dad’s favorite place is behind the grill, let him take charge of a backyard barbecue. You bring the sides, he brings the grill skills. Or, flip the script and do the grilling for him this year.

At-Home Wine or Beer Tasting
Pick up a few bottles from a local shop and have a tasting at home. Pair with snacks and see if Dad can guess the flavors. It’s a simple way to make the day feel special.

Comedy Night or Local Show
Check out local event listings for comedy nights or live music. Laughter and good tunes are always a win.

Museum Visit
For the dad who loves history or art, spend an afternoon at a local museum or gallery. Many spots offer Father’s Day specials or discounts.

Make It Personal

Whatever you do, the best part of Father’s Day is spending time together. Write a card, share a story, or just let Dad know he’s appreciated. Whether you’re enjoying a slice of custom cake, a plate of pasta, or a walk in the park, Rochester has everything you need to make Father’s Day one to remember.
